From Our House to Yours

  Every December I love to look back through my yearly planner and review the year. Add in a skimming review of my devotional journal and I have a fairly good picture of the year. And my, oh my, what a year!  Little did I know when I chose my word of the year, "JOY",  how meaningful and how HARD it would be to remain in a place of joy.  My verse of the year : Habakkuk 3:17-19, "Though the fig tree does not bud and there is no fruit on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls,  YET I will rejoice in the Lord; I will be joyful in the God of my salvation. April Snow-ers

Does April snow bring flowers as well as April showers??  Tomorrow is the last day of April (WHAT??!!) and we've had plenty of snow, but no showers of rain. But I am very happy to report that the snow has melted and the grasses have warmed up enough for the ladybugs to come out of hibernation. (is that what they do?) My little baby seedlings are also quite happy in the front window - my own little greenhouse. (I know it's puny but it works for me!  😃 )  All six of my pumpkin seeds sprouted but only 1 lonely cuke.  hhhmmmffft.  6 "Sunzilla" sunflower plants. (2 years ago they grew to 10 ft tall!) I also tried some flowers this year - other than sunflowers, which for some reason I don't really consider to be flowers! I have always bought my little flowers for the flowerbeds but thought I could at least try and grow marigolds - and then stretched myself to zinneas as well. I have to say that growing things - even just a few - really makes my heart happy. Gr...

Monday Musings

I feel a little like I've fallen into Narnia during the White Queen's reign and it's "always winter and never Christmas."  Aslan, where are you??   We have a snowfall warning for today and below 0C temps all week. I'm looking at my seed catalogue ... and have despairing thoughts, let me tell you!! On the positive side, this weather keeps me content in my warm, cozy house! How are YOU doing, dear reader? Is your life turned upside down? Or are you maintaining with just a few tweaks? We have both in our family. For me, so far, it seems like more "a few tweaks", in lifestyle.  Less social interaction (this gets old for me fast, but I'm a middle of the road extrovert so holding steady with FaceTime, Zoom, and Messenger video chats), no appointments.  Same amount of tv shows, family time, reading, and shopping (not a big shopper!).  A slight increase in crafting and related projects. More time on my phone for texting and video chats. No cleani...

CURRENTLY

READING -  I usually have 2-3 books on the go. A fiction, a non-fiction, and a devotional. 2 at a time is my favourite amount, 3 books test my capacity.  At the moment I have on the go: 1. "Eager To Love - The Alternative Way of Francis of Assisi" by Richard Rohr. This is my slow read AND my "stretch" read - lots of good tidbits but I'm not sure that I always agree with him - or understand him!  2. "Pauses for Lent: 40 Words for 40 Days" by Trevor Hudson.  Excellent so far.   I'm about to start #3 - "Sister to the Wolf" by Maxine Trottier. I discovered that since my children have grown up and I'm not doing read alouds anymore, I miss reading children's and youth books so I've committed to reading 20 of them this year as part of my reading goal.
